North Down Modelling Exhibition
The 18th annual modelling exhibition organized by the North Down Model Railway Society took place over the weekend at the Bangor sports centre. Various exhibits were on show from the world of Marine, Plastic modelling, Aero Modelling and Model Railways.
The Belfast Model Club had a small selection of control line and indoor models on display, also a BMFA Dart building demo on their stand.
The Bangor Boat Club had a large selection of scale models ranging from small boats to large-scale battleships. The detail on some of these models was fantastic; some had working lights, radars, guns, lifeboats and even smoke coming out of the funnels.
The main displays on show came from the railway modellers, with some of the most fantastic layouts of model railways I have ever seen. The skill and attention to detail of each part of the layouts is just unbelievable, if you looked closely at some of the layouts, each selection told a little story e.g. men welding, even the blue flash from the welder could be seen, a lady having trouble with her car, kids playing football in the play ground etc.
I spent about 3hours looking around the various displays and talking to other modellers on all types of modelling topics, airbrushing techniques, silver soldering, etc, all skills that hopefully can be used to import my own models.
Overall it was a good show and worth the trip to Bangor, it nice to see what our fellow modellers from other branches of the hobby is building. If you want to learn about scale modelling, talk to a railway modeller, they our the experts.
